Multilingualism is an exciting, highly interdisciplinary and increasingly relevant field of study. The Department of Linguistics at the University of Konstanz (Germany) is launching a new 2-year (4 semesters) MA programme in Multilingualism, starting in April 2017.

The MA programme in Multilingualism concentrates on topics in current linguistics research that bear most directly on two areas: multilingualism and the individual (language acquisition, early childhood multilingualism, second language acquisition in children and adults, third language acquisition, acquisition of heritage language) and aspects of multilingualism in society (language contact, language loss, language dominance, language influence, language change in European and non-European languages).

"Graduates of this programme will be familiar with the factors that influence the acquisition and processing of more than one language throughout the lifespan as well as factors that determine multilingualism in larger societies. They will be capable of developing ideas for future research that will advance the field."

The MA in Multilingualism is designed as a 2-year programme (4 semesters) with a workload of 120 ECTS-points. Semesters 1 and 2 are spent in Konstanz. In semester 3, students can choose between a stay abroad, studying multilingualism at a partner institution, or an internship with a company or research group relevant to the degree. Semester 4 will be dedicated to thesis work.

"Our enthusiastic team offers training in research methods, including data management, visualisation, and statistics. Students will learn how to conduct experimental research, with direct access to the linguistic research labs (e.g., soundproof cabin, eye tracking, EEG) and technical support. They will also have the opportunity to focus on linguistic foundations in the Linguistics programmes and to engage in interdisciplinary work with related disciplines, such as Education, Political Sciences, Sociology and Psychology."

Languages of instruction are German and English.
