FieldLing is an introduction to linguistic fieldwork.

The programme includes training sessions in general linguistics (e.g. morphology, syntactic typology), fieldwork preparation (e.g. questionnaires, recording), fieldwork itself (practice sessions with native speakers of different languages), and data structuring (e.g. how to write a dictionary or a grammar).

De Week van de Geletterdheid vraagt aandacht voor laaggeletterdheid en het belang van geletterdheid in onze samenleving.

Een op de zes volwassenen in Vlaanderen (18%) is laaggeletterd. Deze mensen kunnen niet goed genoeg lezen om een vacature te begrijpen. Of om de weg te vinden op een website, een formulier in te vullen. Ze hebben te veel moeite met lezen, schrijven, rekenen of het gebruik van digitale toepassingen om op een normale manier mee te kunnen in onze samenleving.

International Literacy Day 2025 (Wereldalfabetiseringsdag)

TermTrends 2025 (a half-day workshop co-located with LDK 2025) aims to provide a discussion forum on the theoretical and methodological approaches for the integration of language resources, and specifically terminological resources, published following Linked Data principles, into the optimisation of LLM pipelines.

In particular, this event focuses on how terminological resources can be leveraged to enhance the performance of LLMs at different stages of their lifecycle, from pre-training and fine-tuning to evaluation and application.
By identifying points of convergence between Linked Data-based terminological data and LLM processes, we seek to explore strategies to make these resources more interoperable, reusable, and impactful.

To this end, the workshop intends to explore the advantages and challenges of leveraging Linked Data-compliant language resources in the context of LLMs.
This includes examining how existing standards for representing terminological data, such as TermBase eXchange (TBX) format, and Semantic Web models like SKOS and Ontolex-lemon, can be adapted or extended to meet the needs of LLM development.


In addition, the workshop aims to discuss innovative ways to integrate language resources published as Linked Data into LLM workflows to address issues such as domain adaptation, bias mitigation, and the interpretability of model outputs.

Furthermore, the workshop will examine the potential of LLMs themselves as tools for generating or enriching terminological resources published as Linked Data.
This includes exploring how LLMs can support the automatic extraction, structuring, and linking of terminological data to Semantic Web standards, enhancing their quality and accessibility for downstream applications.
By bridging the gap between LLM capabilities and Linked Data methodologies, the workshop aims to identify synergies that benefit both fields.

Language, Data and Knowledge (LDK) aims at bringing together researchers from across disciplines concerned with the acquisition, curation and use of language data in the context of data science and knowledge-based applications.

With the advent of the Web and digital technologies, an ever increasing amount of language data is now available across application areas and industry sectors, including social media, digital archives, company records, etc. The efficient and meaningful exploitation of this data in scientific and commercial innovation is at the core of data science research, employing NLP and machine learning methods as well as semantic technologies based on knowledge graphs

Language data is of increasing importance to machine learning-based approaches in NLP, Linked Data and Semantic Web research and applications that depend on linguistic and semantic annotation with lexical, terminological and ontological resources, manual alignment across language or other human-assigned labels. The acquisition, provenance, representation, maintenance, usability, quality as well as legal, organizational and infrastructure aspects of language data are therefore rapidly becoming major areas of research that are at the focus of the conference.

Knowledge graphs is an active field of research concerned with the extraction, integration, maintenance and use of semantic representations of language data in combination with semantically or otherwise structured data, numerical data and multimodal data among others.
Knowledge graph research builds on the exploitation and extension of lexical, terminological and ontological resources, information and knowledge extraction, entity linking, ontology learning, ontology alignment, semantic text similarity, Linked Data and other Semantic Web technologies.
The construction and use of knowledge graphs from language data, possibly and ideally in the context of other types of data, is a further specific focus of the conference.

A further focus of the conference is the combined use and exploitation of language data and knowledge graphs in data science-based approaches to use cases in industry, including biomedical applications, as well as use cases in humanities and social sciences.

Die Entwicklung von Large Language Models (LLM) wirft neue Fragen zu Kreativität und nicht vollständig nachvollziehbaren Verstehensprozessen auf. Die diesjährige Jahrestagung der DGI fragt fachübergreifend nach den sprachlich vermittelten Prozessen des Verstehens in Wissenschaft, Bildung und Vermittlung und thematisiert dabei auch die noch immer wirksame Trennung von sprachlich-kulturellen und MINT-orientierten Disziplinen. Diskutiert werden unter anderem die Rolle von Fachsprachen, interdisziplinäre Bildung, Digital Humanities sowie die Voraussetzung von Sprachkompetenz für Informationskompetenz.

Computational Linguistics in The Netherlands (CLIN) is a yearly conference on computational linguistics.

Each year the conference is organized by a different institution in the Dutch-speaking region.

CLARIN stands for Common Language Resources and Technology Infrastructure. It is a digital infrastructure which provides easy and sustainable access to a broad range of language data (text, audio, video) and tools to support research in the humanities and social sciences, and beyond.

This international conference is centered on data from the Program for the International Assessment of Adult Competencies (PIAAC). PIAAC is a population-representative study designed to examine basic adult competencies in international comparison. The conference aims to disseminate and discuss newly acquired scientific findings within the academic community. In particular, research work that uses data from the second cycle of PIAAC, which will be published at the end of 2024, should be presented and discussed. Additionally, it seeks to sustain and expand the interest in the data generated by PIAAC.
