A Germanic Sandwich is a series of workshops in which Dutch is compared with its closest Germanic neighbours, English and German. Consistent with its geographical intermediate location, Dutch has been argued to occupy a linguistic position in between German and English.

A Germanic Sandwich 10 focusses on (dis)similarities between these three languages from a synchronic and/or a diachronic perspective and covering domains such as phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics and/or pragmatics. In addition, it is open to contrastive work dealing with – among other things – psycholinguistics and language acquisition and to comparisons with other (West) Germanic languages like Afrikaans and Frisian.

The ParlaCLARIN V workshop discusses the importance of interoperability,
multi- linguality and multimodality for SSH research into the socio-political domain.

'Parliamentary data is an important source of scholarly and socially relevant content of interest to researchers from a number of disciplines in digital humanities and social sciences, such as political science, sociology, history, and (socio)linguistics, as well as investigative journalists, citizen scientists and potentially the general public. It represents the actual debates taking place in parliament with potential to be contextualised with corresponding reports, legal context, minutes, data from social media, records of decisions taken, and further analysis over the impact of those in the society. Moreover this material covers a broad spectrum of topics and falls outside of copyright allowing diverse types of analysis to be carried out once the data is accessible via infrastructures supporting interoperable metadata schemes.'

'Ce colloque vise à offrir un espace de réflexion et d’échange académique autour des formes d’adresse dans différentes langues.

L’objectif est de mieux comprendre les variations sociales, pragmatiques et linguistiques qui caractérisent ces formes, dans une perspective multidisciplinaire englobant, entre autres, la grammaire, la linguistique historique, la sociolinguistique, la pragmatique, l’analyse du discours, la traduction, la didactique ou la communication interculturelle.'

'Au cours de ce colloque, les formes verbales (c’est-à-dire les inflexions grammaticales), pronominales (par exemple tu et vous en français) et nominales (par exemple Monsieur, Madame) seront prises en compte.

Une attention particulière sera portée à la variation dans l’utilisation des formes d’adresse de proximité (T) et de distance (V), aux changements historiques et générationnels, à la variation diatopique, à la comparaison inter linguistique, ainsi qu’aux défis que peut poser la traduction de ces formes ou leur enseignement aux locuteurs non natifs.'

'La rencontre aura également un caractère transversal marqué. Le colloque vise à réunir des étudiants, des enseignants, des linguistes, des traducteurs et des chercheurs qui souhaitent étudier les formes d’adresse, en accordant une attention particulière aux langues romanes, notamment à l’espagnol.'

Deaf Technologies 2026 - International Conference on Deaf Technologies - Deaf Tech Conference 2026

COM2026 focusses specifically on the topic of language control, that has given rise to fierce debates in recent years, and on acquired language disorders in multilingual speakers. An additional focus will be on the relation between bilingual speakers and their environment, as for example in the perception of accented speech.

'There is much discussion at present about the impact of generative artificial intelligence on the world of literary translation, and translator organisations have been understandably circumspect, but as the perceived threat of AI intensifies, so too does interest in the uniquely human factors that translators bring to their work.'

This conference focusses on the human creativity that is resistant to the rise of AI – on the extent to which the literary translator can be considered an original author, how creativity and experimentation can be cultivated in the classroom, how a translator’s creativity might need to be constrained and how it thrives on constraints.

The focus will be on two questions in particular:

• What kinds of creative approach are available to literary translators?
• To what extent is creativity in translation (still) the exclusive preserve of human translators?

The conference will provide an opportunity to review historical perspectives, take stock of recent developments and take the creative pulse of literary translation today, in theory and practice.

The annual Anéla/VIOT Juniorendag (junior research day) is an opportunity for BA and MA students, recent graduates, and PhD candidates to present their research in the field of applied linguistics (language use, language acquisition, language education, language proficiency, or communication).

BA en MA studenten, net afgestudeerden en promovendi presenteren op de Juniorendag hun onderzoek op het gebied van toegepaste taalkunde (taalgebruik, taalverwerving, taalonderwijs, taalbeheersing of communicatie). Daarnaast wordt er tijdens deze dag de jaarlijkse Anéla-VIOT Scriptieprijs uitgereikt voor de beste MA-scriptie binnen het vakgebied.
